Rumours – Suarez To Get His Wish?

So far it’s been a summer dominated by rugby, tennis and cricket, and if you’re pining for the start of the new football season, we’ve got some bad news for you – it’s still more than a month away. Never fear though, although there’s no action, there’s always plenty of juicy transfer gossip for those suffering severe withdrawal symptoms from the beautiful game.

Wantaway Suarez to finally get his dream move

No sooner had the season finished than Liverpool striker Luis Suarez made his intention clear – he wanted out at Anfield. He’d had enough of the press, he’d had enough of the opposition fans and he just wanted someone to love him (okay, maybe a bit of artistic license there…). Given that Suarez – for all his foibles – is a truly world class player, there were only ever going to be a few possible destinations for the Uruguyan, with Real Madrid being close to the top of the list. It now appears as though that move may actually happen; with a few media sources reporting this week that Madrid have put a £40m offer on the table.

There’s no doubt that Suarez would fit in well at Real, but there’s no guarantee that he wouldn’t bring all the baggage that he has accumulated with him. If the move goes through, it could make for a very interesting marriage, with Madrid themselves no strangers to controversy.

Spurs and Liverpool to compete for Barca starlet

Given the amount of exceptional players that Barcelona produce, it should be of no surprise to anyone that they’ve got another one. 19-year old Gerard Deulofeu was in fantastic form last season netting 18 times for Barcelona B in the Spanish Second Division last season. Whilst Barcelona would obviously like to keep hold of a player with such great potential, it appears that they’re happy for the youngster to head off on loan for one season, with prospective first team appearances looking limited for the winger/striker. If Suarez leaves, Liverpool will have a bit striker shaped hole at Anfield, and lots of the papers are reporting that they will move for the Spanish trickster. Tottenham have been on the lookout for a quality striker since…well, probably since the days of Dimitar Berbatov, and the speculation is that Spurs will look to compete with Liverpool for Deulofeu’s signature, with Dortmund also in the running.

Rooney: will he stay or will he go?

We’ve covered the Rooney transfer request saga on this website in quite some detail, and over a month after the season finished, we’re still none the wiser as to whether Rooney will be moving on or not. The gossip this week suggests that David Moyes will do his very best to get the unsettled striker to stay, whilst some papers have reported Rooney’s dismay at the suggestion that he wants to leave Old Trafford. The two men are due to meet to discuss the situation, with Moyes hoping for a positive conclusion. If Rooney does leave, the newest piece of gossip suggests that he would favour a move to Barcelona; speculation that seems farfetched given that Barcelona have just spent a shedload on the Brazilian superstar Neymar.

Real to scupper Tottenham’s bid for Paulinho

It was only yesterday that the majority of media outlets reported that Tottenham were close to signing Corinthians midfielder Paulinho, with the player himself quoted as being very keen on the move. Today however, speculation is rife that Real Madrid are planning to ambush that move by making a £20m bid for the Brazilian. Paulinho has been playing for Brazil in the Confederations Cup which has slowed negotiations down, and if he heads to Madrid rather than London, Spurs will be kicking themselves that they weren’t able to get him to sign on the dotted line earlier.

Micah Richards to head for the continent

Carlos Tevez has reportedly sealed a move away from the Etihad, and it seems like Micah Richards could be about to do the same. The 25-year old has refused a new contract offer from Manchester City, and the current rumour doing the rounds is that Richards may head over the Channel, with Italy seeming to be his preferred destination. Inter and AC Milan are reported to be to two clubs most interested in acquiring his signature, and with only one year left on his contract, City could be prepared to cash in on the defender rather than lose him for nothing next summer.

Other rumours:

  •       Chelsea have reportedly set a ceiling on the amount they’ll pay for Edinson Cavani, with a £40m maximum bid mooted
  •     Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan has not shown up at training at his current club Shahktar Donetsk as he seeks a move to Anfield
  •      CSKA Moscow’s Keisuke Honda could be on his way to Goodison Park as Everton look to fill a hole that could be left by Marouane Fellaini’s departure
  •      Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is rumoured to be interested in selling the Northeast club only 6 years after buying it.
  •       Le Havre fullback Benjamin Mendy could be on his way to Arsenal for around £5m
