With no tournament this summer, football fans all over the globe are being starved of all things football; but thankfully there’s plenty of transfer gossip to tide us over until the season kicks off once again in August. It’s been an interesting week for transfer rumours, so stay tuned for the best of this week’s rumour mill.
Villas-Boas to hop over the channel?
It’s been widely reported this week that mega-rich outfit Paris Saint-Germain are interested in procuring the services of Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas. PSG were reportedly hoping to be able to secure the Dutch maestro Guus Hiddink, but with Hiddink deciding to stay in Russia, many papers are speculating that the Portuguese tactician could be interested in a move to Paris. Whilst there’s no doubt that AVB is hot property after an encouraging start at Spurs, it seems unlikely that he will move after only one season after expressing his gratitude to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for the chance he was given at White Hart Lane.
Ronaldo to make even more money in Monaco
Obviously the bulk of the gossip surrounding Ronaldo has been about a possible return to Old Trafford, but making many of the papers this week has been a story regarding a gigantic bid from moneybags Monaco. It is reported that Monaco are ready to offer £85m to secure the services of the forward, and are willing to pay Ronaldo £17m a year; equating to £330,000 a week. Quite whether Ronaldo will be swayed by that figure remains to be seen, but with plenty of money available at Monaco; they’re certainly looking like they’ll be a force to be reckoned with next season.
Bent to head north?
Speculation is rife that Alan Pardew would like to bring Darren Bent to Newcastle, and with Aston Villa seemingly content to let him go, the figure taking Bent to St James Park could be as low as £6m. Given that Villa paid £24m for his services only 2 years ago, this would represent a poor bit of business for the Midlands club; but with Christian Benteke now the main man at Villa Park, it may be wise for Villa to cash in before Bent’s value decreases any more.
Could Fabregas be United’s missing link?
Ever since Man Utd were schooled by AC Milan in 2007 a commanding central midfielder has been high on their shopping list, and although Michael Carrick has blossomed in recent years, they still don’t have a player in the middle who can really grab the game by the scruff of the neck. With David Moyes eager to make his mark by delivering a world-class signing, there are plenty of people suggesting that Cesc Fabregas could be that midfield dynamo; and given that Fabregas is yet to really settle in Barcelona, he may well be interested in a move to the English champions. Securing the signature of Fabregas would allow Moyes to send a real signal that he is capable of attracting top players, and this potential move could well suit both United and Fabregas himself.
Mourinho makes eyes at Rooney
The Special One has arrived at Stamford Bridge, and Jose Mourinho has wasted no time in hinting that he would gladly bring Wayne Rooney to Chelsea. It has been widely reported that Rooney fancies a change of scenery, and Mourinho hinted in a press conference that he thought Rooney could well be happy in West London. However, it seems unlikely that United would be prepared to sell the wantaway striker to a Premier League rival, so if Rooney does leave, Europe still remains the most likely destination.
And some other rumours:
– Johan Elmander to Hull
– Andy Carroll to West Ham in a permanent deal
– Carlton Cole to West Brom
– Mascherano to Napoli
– Van Ginkel to Chelsea
