Speaking of Huddersfield, Aaron Mooy found the back of the net for Town in a 3-1 loss to Newcastle, converting from the penalty spot.

Aussie youngsters Jackson Irvine (Burton Albion) and Bailey Wright (Bristol City) both started and played the full 90 minutes as their sides met in a 0-0 draw.

With the latest Socceroos squad about to be selected, keeper Mathew Ryan put in a strong showing for Genk in a 2-1 win over his old team Club Brugge.

In Switzerland, Sydney-born striker Tomi Juric struck bagged a brace for FC Luzern as they saw off Aarau 5-3 in the Swiss Cup.
