Commentary Box Sports brings you a wrap of last week’s action involving Aussies and Kiwis playing over in Europe.

The English Premier League is back, and with it a couple of new Aussie faces in the top flight.

Socceroos shot-stopper Mathew Ryan was in goal for Brighton as they lost 2-0 to powerhouses Manchester City, pulling off a brilliant save which garnered praise post-match.

It was a better story for Aaron Mooy though, who played a full match for Huddersfield Town and set up their second goal as they powered to a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

It was a tough day to be a defender for West Ham, as Winston Reid’s Hammers went down 4-0 to a rampant Manchester United.

In the second-tier, Aussies Bailey Wright, James Meredith and Massimo Luongo all started for their respective sides, while Jackson Irvine scored Burton Albion’s only goal before going from hero to zero when he was sent off in the 38th minute following a second yellow card.

Down in League 1 both Aiden O’Neill and Ryan Williams had goal involvements. O’Neill assisted Fleetwood Town’s goal in a 1-0 win over Northampton Town, while Williams assisted Rotherham United’s first goal and scored the 5th in a 5-0 win.

Over in the Netherlands former Melbourne Victory star Marco Rojas came off the bench for the final 18 minutes of Heerenveen’s first game of the season, impressing with some classy touches in the lead up to his side’s third goal in a 3-3 draw.

Fellow All White Ryan Thomas set up a goal in PEC Zwolle’s 4-2 home win over Roda JC.
