SWEDISH STRIKER COPS RED CARD FOR GOAL CELEBRATION

A player in a Swedish club match has been handed a red card for an overzealous goal celebration.

After hammering a brilliant shot in to the back of the net, the flamboyant striker headed into the stands to applaud his goal – only to be given his marching orders by the unimpressed referee.

The ill-fated boasting brought back memories of St George Illawarra cult hero Mark ‘Piggy’ Riddell’s famous post-try celebration from the 2002 NRL season, when the burly hooker jumped the fence to clap his own four-pointer from the stands.

There were no repercussions for Riddell, however, whose efforts have gone down in rugby league folklore.
