UCL draw favours Chelsea, Bayern

European heavyweights Chelsea and Bayern Munich are best-placed to reach the Champions League Quarter-finals after escaping with away draws from the first leg of their Round of 16 ties.

Jose Mourinho’s side led Paris Saint-Germain but were forced to fight after Edinson Cavani’s equaliser, while a 10-man Bayern played out a stalemate against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Chelsea had Thibaut Courtois to thank for their result as the Belgian keeper constantly repelled PSG’s attacking riches, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Blues now only need a scoreless draw in the return leg at Stamford Bridge, while Bayern will hope to recover their Bundesliga-slaying form when Shakhtar visit the Allianz Arena.
