WALLABIES’ LATE SURGE SWAMPS PUMAS

Australia has secured its first win of the 2017 Rugby Championship, powering to a 45-20 win over Argentina in Canberra courtesy of three late tries.

Martin Landajo scored the opening try for the Pumas in the 23rd minute, but Israel Folau responded for the Wallabies to cut the halftime deficit to three points.

The home took control via a try to Sekope Kepu (49th minute) and a second to Folau (53rd), opening up a 24-13 lead. Any hopes of a late Pumas rally were extinguished when Will Genia and his replacement Nick Phipps crossed in quick succession inside the final 10 minutes.

A brilliant kick-and-chase try to Matias Moroni provided some consolation for Argentina, before reserve hooker Jordan Uelese scored his first Test try on fulltime to cap a satisfactory performance from the Wallabies.
