Most neutral observers would expect a rugby union international to wipe the canvas with a reality TV star in a boxing bout, but The Bachelor star Art Green turned the tables on former All Blacks winger Zac Guildford in their showdown at the Fight for Life charity event in Auckland on Saturday.
Guildford, who played 11 Tests for New Zealand from 2009-12, came out with all guns blazing and rocked his opponent in the early moments of the three-round contest.
But Green, a personal trainer who evidently packs quite a punch, fired back to pummel Guildford – who opted against wearing headgear in the amateur bout – for the remainder of the match. After receiving a standing 8-count later in the opening round, Guildford bravely fought on to see out the three rounds but was convincingly beaten on points.
Guildford has endured a succession of alcohol-related setbacks, exacerbated by personal tragedy, but will make a return to the Super Rugby ranks with the Waratahs in 2016. He was previous a prolific try-scorer for the Hurricanes and Crusaders between 2008 and ’14.
In other Fight for Life results, legendary South Africa and New Zealand netball Goal Shooter Irene van Dyk stopped accountant Belinda Somerville, while in the main event Kiwi heavyweight sensation Joseph Parker defeated American Daniel Martz by TKO in the first round.
