Southland pips Northland in ITM Cup thriller

While the inaugural season of the Australian NRC continues to get mixed reviews, New Zealand’s provincial ITM Cup keeps solidifying its reputation as arguably the best domestic competition in world rugby.

Southland and Northland played out the latest thriller in Invercargill on Saturday, with the lead changing hands several times in a classic encounter.

The Stags equalised with an after-the-bell try, before Otago Highlanders No.10 Lima Sopoaga nailed the sideline conversion for a 37-35 victory over the gallant Taniwhas, who were playing their third game in eight days.
