Multi-code megastar Sonny Bill Williams’ transition back into rugby union has been seamless. After a couple of appearances for ITM Cup outfit Counties Manakau, Williams was fast-tracked into the All Blacks’ touring squad.
He starred with two tries against the United States, before similarly outstanding performances against England and Scotland. Proving it doesn’t always just click – even for athletes of Williams’ ilk and freakish ability – he endured a tough evening against the dogged Wales side.
The 29-year-old has also outlined his desire to step back into the ring for his first pro bout since a controversial defeat of veteran South African pugilist Francois Botha in February 2013.
Coinciding with his return to rugby union, sponsor Adidas has released a series of ‘Leave Your Mark’ videos featuring SBW, giving an inspirational insight to the meticulous and gruelling work that goes into his preparation – whatever the sport might be.
The third video in the series focuses on mental commitment.
“If you’ve done all you can during the week, invariably the chips are going to fall your way,” Williams says.
“And if they don’t, they don’t. That’s just sports; that’s just footy.”
