With the Wallabies set to take on a Barbarians combination on Saturday, Flashback Friday relives a classic encounter from 1988.

Australia named a Test-strength line-up for their clash with the ‘Baabaas’ at Cardiff Arms Park, featuring greats of the era such as Nick Farr-Jones, David Campese, Michael Lynagh, Steve Cutler, Steve Tunyman and Lloyd Walker.

Soon-to-be league converts Scott Gourley and Andrew Leeds also took the field in the green and gold.

The Barbarians featured British superstars Jonathan Davies, Gavin Hastings and Rory Underwood.

Former Fiji international Acura Niuqila, playing on the wing, scored one of the Wallabies’ tries in a 40-22 victory, but the blockbusting performance of Scottish fullback Hastings was arguably the highlight.
