The Wallabies are at a low ebb as they head into Saturday’s crucial showdown with the Springboks at Suncorp Stadium, so to lift Australian rugby fans’ spirits Flashback Friday is celebrating 10 years since a record win over the South Africans in Brisbane.

The home side romped to a 49-0 win over the Boks in the 2006 Tri Nations scoring six tries in a blistering display.

No.10 linchpin Stephen Larkham starred early, booting a 40-metre drop goal, before setting up a try for burly prop Greg Holmes with a sizzling break as the Wallabies raced to a 30-0 halftime lead.

Chris Latham’s try – set up by a Matt Giteau cross-field kick and superb work from Lote Tuqiri – was the highlight of the second half, while Giteau finished with two tries for the John Connolly-coached side.

What wouldn’t Michael Cheika give to have the talents of Gregan, Larkham, Latham, Mortlock, Tuqiri and Rogers at his disposal this weekend…
