Let’s take a look at some of the most memorable tries from the hard-fought Reds-Highlanders rivalry.

It was an inauspicious Super 12 debut for the Queensland Reds, taken to the cleaners 57-17 by the Otago Highlanders in Round 1 of the 1996 season at Carisbrook. This is the Highlanders’ first-ever try, finished off by Taine Randell.

Brilliant Queensland fullback Chris Latham set up this stunner for Daniel Herbert at Ballymore in 1999 with a beautiful chip-and-chase.

In the same game, Brian Lima’s classic try from a kick ahead by the mercurial Jeff Wilson put the Highlanders on the board. The visitors eventually snatched a 20-19 win via a late try to No.8 Isotolo Maka.

This dazzling effort from Romi Ropati came in the Highlanders’ 50-13 drubbing of the Reds in 2000.

Winless in seven visits to Carisbrook, the Reds belatedly broke their Dunedin hoodoo with a thrilling 34-33 victory at Forsyth Barr Stadium, running in some brilliant tries as Quade Cooper and Will Genia starred.
