Commentary Box Sports brings you a wrap of last week’s action involving Aussies and Kiwis playing over in Europe.

Union and league

In France Sitaleki Timani helped Clermont to win the French Top 14 competition, downing Ma’a Nonu’s RC Toulonnais 22-16 in the final last week.

A former Force, Warratahs and Brumbies player in Super Rugby, the Tonga-born lock made his debut for the Wallabies in 2011.

Fellow Aussie John Ulugia was on the bench for Clermont.

Moving to league and Hull FC got plenty of help from their ‘exiles’ as they got up for a big 39-26 victory over defending champions the Wigan Warriors.

Former Bronco and Titan Steve Michaels scored a double, while Albert Kelly scorched away for a 95-metre intercept. Mark Minichiello also registered a four-pointer in the win.

Mid-week Minichiello committed to the black and whites for another year, with a contract that will take the 35-year-old forward through until the end of 2018.

Still in Yorkshire and Adam Cuthbertson grabbed two tries for Leeds in their 22-14 win over Leigh, with Joel Moon also scoring for the Rhinos, while one-time Newcastle Knight Cory Patterson went over for one of Leigh’s three tries.

After 17 rounds of the Super League, another Leeds player from down under, former Manly dummy-half Matt Parcell, leads the competition in tackles made, averaging 37 per game, while he has already scored 11 tries.

Speaking of tackles, New Zealander Hep Cahill topped the count as his Widnes Vikings downed Catalans 26-6, with Aussies Jack Buchanan, Rhys Hanbury and Corey Thompson all scoring.

Recent Kiwi international Sam Moa continued his strong start to life in the south of France, scoring a try and running for 85 metres.
