Barnes and Mitchell expected for Stormers

HSBC Waratahs coach Michael Cheika expects to have Wallaby stars Berrick Barnes and Drew Mitchell available for the team’s next home game against the Stormers at Allianz Stadium on Saturday May 11.

Having sustained a minor tear to his hamstring the game against the Chiefs that prevented him travelling to South Africa, Mitchell is expected to be back in action in the HSBC Waratahs’ home clash against the Stormers in two weeks time. The game could also see the return of Barnes, after the playmaker last month underwent surgery on a dislocated thumb sustained in the game against the Cheetahs.

After breaking his right fibula (lower leg) in Eastwood’s Shute Shield win over Randwick last Saturday, Lachie Turner underwent surgery on Monday and will miss the rest of the season.

Also injured in Shute Shield action, Manly lock Greg Peterson will next week undergo surgery on a dislocated shoulder.
