As St George Illawarra and Gold Coast prepare for Friday night’s crunch game, Wind-back Wednesday relives a classic golden point encounter between the clubs from 2010.

A gripping Round 20 fixture between the ladder-leading Dragons and the Titans at Kogarah Oval was locked at 10-all from the 55th minute, and a draw was on the cards after nine scoreless minutes of extra-time.

But the Titans’ 34-year-old dual international, Mat Rogers, had other ideas.

Despite not kicking a field goal in his previous 191 first-grade appearances, Rogers ignored the option of passing to halfback Scott Prince and snapped a memorable one-pointer from dummy-half to sink the Saints.

The victory proved crucial in the Titans claiming a top-four spot for the second season in a row, while the Dragons went on to win their maiden premiership as a joint venture.
