The biff returns in fiery NYC clash

Bloodthirsty fans pining for the biff received a rare glimpse into a bygone era during Sunday’s NYC clash between mid-table clubs Newcastle and Cronulla, when a run-of-the-mill push-and-shove erupted into a flurry of fists.

Sharks forward Curtis Scott received some heavy treatment in the tackle from Knights counterpart Sam Apthorpe and reacted accordingly after playing the ball.

But instead of petering out before the fisticuffs stage for fear of the sin-bin, the tyros started throwing haymakers in a wild 20-second melee that had most players from both sides rushing in.

The brawling duo were duly despatched for 10 minutes, while they may also have a case to answer at the judiciary after the incident was put on report.

The Sharks won the fiery Hunter Stadium encounter 24-10.
