Taufua and Matai produce twin bell-ringers

Manly may have suffered a 20-8 defeat to South Sydney to remain anchored to the bottom of the ladder, but the Sea Eagles’ left-side pairing of Steve Matai and Jorge Taufua certainly left their mark on the Rabbitohs with punishing defensive efforts.

Winger Taufua, who has made a strong return after a long injury lay-off, crunched his former City Origin teammate Dylan Walker in the 12th minute of the match. Walker required attention after the bone-rattler.

But Taufua’s tackle was overshadowed before halftime when renowned hitman Matai cut Rabbitohs front-rower Dave Tyrell in half with the shot of the year so far.
