RD 5: Dogs v Manly; Titans v Broncos

Bulldogs 6 Manly 20
Tries:
Bulldogs: Michael Ennis (73’)
Manly: Jorge Taufua (8’, 36’), Jamie Lyon (26’)
ANZ Stadium

Brett Stewart was in brilliant form as Manly took down Des Hasler’s Bulldogs on Friday night.

It took just 8 minutes for the first try. It started with a second man play from Manly and finished with a cut out pass from Stewart to an open Jorge Taufua.

The Dogs poor ball handling was gifting Manly a hefty amount of possession, and it was again Stewart who made them pay.

Brett broke the line on his own 40 and off loaded to Jamie Lyon who ran in Manly’s second try in the 26th minute.

Stewart was also proving to be a handful on the defensive end coming up with a trying saving tackle 10 meters out.

Manly went back on the attacked and Taufua jagged a double as he dove on a perfectly placed Kieran Foran grubber.

Half Time: Bulldogs 0 Manly 18.

It was a brutal night for the Bulldogs, and their lack of intensity continued in the second half.

Michael Ennis walked over in the 73rd minute to prevent Manly from completely shutting them out.

Titans 12 Broncos 32
Tries:
Titans: Albert Kelly (14’), Beau Falloon (30’)
Broncos: Peter Wallace (20’), Josh Hoffman (33’), Matt Gillett (45’), Justin Hodges (69’), Andrew McCullough (73’), Nick Slyney (80’)
Skilled Park

The Broncos went into round 5 with only one win under their belt.

Albert Kelly got the crowd going in the 14th minute as he broke the line on his own 50 and then performed a chip and chase to score a brilliant individual try.

Just as it looked like the Broncos were in for another tough night, an overlap down the left had Hoffman in space. In a wonderful effort, Hoffman drew the winger and defender before off loading to Peter Wallace who crossed the white line (20’).

After three back-to-back sets of six, the Broncos finally cracked as Beau Falloon crashed over from dummy half in the 30th minute.

Brisbane took three minutes to reply when some quick hands lead to an overlap and Hoffman dove over in the corner.

Half Time: Titans 12 Broncos 10.

Brisbane came out in the second half on fire as they pilled on four unanswered tries.

Even with all their success going left in the first half, the Broncos attacked right and scored twice via Matt Gillett (45’) and Justin Hodges (69’).

Andrew McCullough continued his scoring this season as he forced his way over from dummy half in the 73rd minute to seal the game.
