The Penrith Panthers have secured another piece of their burgeoning premiership puzzle with the news dynamic utility Tyrone Peachey has extended his contract by another two years, warding off the near-certain interest of a host of rival NRL clubs.

The new deal means the 25-year-old will remain with the Panthers until at least the end of the 2019 season.

“I always wanted to stay at the Panthers because I love the club and all the people here,” Peachey said.

“We’ve got such a good team and it’s exciting knowing I will be part of it for the next three years.

“There’s a feeling we can do something special and whether I’m in the centres, or the forwards, I’m happy to play wherever Hook (Anthony Griffin) wants me to play.”

Peachey joined the Panthers in 2014 and the following season he won the prestigious Merv Cartwright Medal, awarded to the Panthers Player of the Year, while also earning selection in the NSW City Origin side and Prime Minister’s XIII.

Better known as a livewire backrower, Peachey proved his versatility in 2016 by filling in brilliantly at left centre for the Panthers.

He finished the season as the club’s second leading try-scorer (13 tries) and his impressive form again saw him play for NSW City.

“Tyrone has been wonderful for our club and I am delighted he will be with us for the next three seasons,” Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould AM said.

“He is an integral part of our plans going forward.

“The quality of football this young man has produced, along with his ability to play multiple positions extremely well, makes Tyrone a perfect candidate for representative teams into the future. I have no doubts he would excel at that level.”

Peachey’s new deal continues a productive year for the Panthers, with the likes of Matt Moylan (2021), Bryce Cartwright (2021), Trent Merrin (2020), Leilani Latu (2020), Isaah Yeo (2019), Nathan Cleary (2019), James Fisher-Harris (2019), Peter Wallace (2018) and Josh Mansour (2018) all re-committing to the club.
