Marvel jerseys taking over Round 21

Move over Robert Downey Jr., there’s a new Ironman in town and his name is Gareth Widdop. Chris Hemsworth as Thor? Try North Queensland’s own thunder god in enforcer Ashton Sims. Even the role of Uncle Sam’s favourite superhero, Captain America, has been taken by premiership-winning skipper Anthony Minichiello.

These are three of the five new jerseys designed by ISC that will be worn by NRL clubs around the grounds in Round 21 of the premiership. The Dragons, Cowboys, Roosters, Sea Eagles and Raiders will all emulate iconic Marvel characters – and have the purists spitting chips.

Clubs are already thinking outside the box when it comes to marketing ideas, previously promoting Superman, James Bond, The Dark Knight and Star Wars on NRL strips.

The Marvel jerseys were launched on July 15th, with The Incredible Hulk (Canberra) and Wolverine (Manly) also available for fans to purchase.
