Konrad Hurrell lays out Kieran Foran

Konrad Hurrell was at his wrecking-ball best during the first half of the Warriors’ plucky loss to Manly on Sunday, starting with a trademark try in the second minute and culminating in this massive collision with Kieran Foran.

Rugged five-eighth Foran was sent flying before being penalised for a shoulder-charge, while both players were a little worse for wear afterwards. Ironically, the pair are likely to be teammates in New Zealand’s Four Nations squad at the end of the year.

While Hurrell’s Meninga-like ability to skittle defenders still commands the bulk of the attention, it was his desperation to get back and defuse the Sea Eagles’ long-range attack in this sequence that points to his vastly improved attitude and fitness.

‘The Hurrellcane’s’ one-on-one centre battle with Manly tough guy Steve Matai – who is trying to wrangle a release to join the Warriors in 2015 – was a highlight on the gripping Round 20 encounter.
