Canberra forward Iosia Soliola has carved out a reputation as one of the NRL’s more brusing customers since returning to the Australian premiership in 2015, and his perfectly-timed shot on Sydney Roosters halfback Luke Keary on Sunday was some of his best work.

Soliola began his first grade career with the Roosters in 2005, playing 92 games for the club and representing New Zealand in 11 Tests, predominantly as a centre before shifting to the back-row in 2009.

He linked with St Helens in 2010, playing in two losing Super League grand finals before departing with a victory in the 2014 decider. The 30-year-old has played 51 games since linking with the Raiders – including all 12 games this year – and adds experience and starch to an outstanding but youthful Green Machine pack.
