Building up to the State of Origin series opener at Suncorp Stadium, we’re counting down the 10 greatest individual displays in Origin history.

Jarryd Hayne’s spellbinding performance in NSW’s unforgettable 12-8 win in the 2014 series opener at Suncorp Stadium comes in at No.3 in our countdown.

The Parramatta fullback’s customary attacking brilliance provided a crucial halftime lead, while his heroic defensive efforts at the back typified the long-suffering Blues’ courageous effort in one of the state’s finest Origin triumphs.

The visitors fell behind 4-0 early in the 100th Origin match, but Hayne laid on their first try to Brett Morris in the 19th minute and showed incredible strength and determination to score himself seven minutes out from the break.

He produced several vital plays on the other side of the ball as NSW desperately clung to a four-point advantage to seal a famous victory, its first in Brisbane in four years and a result which ultimately set the Blues on course for their first series success since 2005.
