Dale Copley's best tries of 2014

Brisbane three-quarter Dale Copley’s rise has been one of the 2014 NRL season’s most spectacular individual success stories. After missing all of last year through injury, Copley has played all 19 of the Broncos’ games and sits atop the premiership tryscoring table, tied with Semi Radradra and Jarrod Croker on 15 touchdowns.

Copley boasted 39 first grade appearances for 14 tries prior to this season, but has ramped up his strike-rate in a new-look Broncos backline, alternating between wing and centre. He came desperately close to a Queensland call-up for Origin III, while an eventual Maroons jumper now appears a mere formality after an electrifying campaign. His butter-fingered display in the 2011 preliminary final loss to Manly is now just a distant memory.

His finest performance came in the Broncos’ courageous upset of the Warriors at Suncorp in Round 19. After being shifted to centre in a late change – his first appearance in the left centre slot – Copley turned in a match-winning hand. The 23-year-old scored a brilliant solo try to put the Broncos back on level pegging, before making a long break in the ensuing set and then crossing for the match-winner a couple of plays later.

Both tries are featured in this video, which shows Copley’s six best tries of 2014 so far:
