Ben incorrectly bins Gillett then apologises

Last night the Brisbane Broncos kept their Top 8 hopes alive as they downed the Dragons 30-22.

The Dragons Round 26 match at Hunter Stadium against the 14th-placed Knights now holds no bearing on the finals.

During the match Matt Gillett was mistakenly sent to the sin bin when referee Ben Cummins claims he was offside.

It was the incorrect call. When Benji Marshall takes the quick tap there are two players offside: Sam Thaiday and Andrew McCullough. Neither of these two players interfere with the play, so as they pass the 40-metre line (10 metres back from the penalty mark), they are then deemed onside.

Ben Cummins realised his mistake and apologised to Matt Gillett when he returned to the field:

The referees have been under the spotlight for weeks now; this certainly doesn’t give coaches, players and fans any confidence as we prepare for the finals.
