Carney's ribs broken by former teammate

Todd Carney’s bid to resurrect his troubled career has hit an early snag after suffering broken ribs in Catalans’ recent clash with Salford.

The playmaker was hit in a ferocious tackle by former Sydney Roosters teammate Lama Tasi after passing the ball.

Carney is expected to be out for 3-4 weeks in a blow to the French club’s Super League aspirations.

Catalans coach Laurent Frayssinous was fuming over Tasi’s tackle that has sidelined his star player.

“It is not acceptable (penalty), the same as it is not acceptable there is a late tackle on Todd Carney that has left him in the hospital with a broken rib,” Frayssinous said.

“I expect Tasi to be charged but I also thought he should have been shown a card.”

Surely the coach’s emotions got the better of him – there was nothing illegal in the hit and Tasi was clearly committed to making the tackle; it’s just an unfortunate part of the game.
