Blues name side for Origin III

New South Wales has made three enforced changes to its squad for Origin III at Suncorp Stadium on July 9 as the new interstate champs aim for their first series whitewash in 14 years.

Josh Morris has returned to replace the injured Michael Jennings at left centre, despite not playing since his heroic Origin I display where he suffered a knee injury.

Newcastle veteran James McManus has been recalled on the right wing in the place of Will Hopoate, who has failed to recover from an arm injury picked up in Origin II. McManus previously represented the Blues in the 2009 series opener and the 2013 decider, and has rebuffed the claims of uncapped Penrith flyer Josh Mansour.

After making a tryscoring return from injury for the Sydney Roosters on Friday, Boyd Cordner returns to the Blues’ bench following Anthony Watmough’s  suspension for a dangerous throw in Origin II. Cordner was preferred over Origin I interchange forward Tony Williams and burgeoning Canterbury backrower Josh Jackson.

The Blues have not recorded a 3-0 series victory since their record-breaking spree in 2000, with two games played at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium. NSW only other two cleansweeps – in 1986 and ’96 – were achieved despite two games being played at Brisbane’s Lang Park.
