Bird challenges Big Mal to run at him

Greg Bird has solidified his reputation as Queensland’s Public Enemy No.1 during an outspoken 2014 Origin campaign.

Typically aggressive and niggling on the field, the NSW backrower riled everyone north of the border by bagging Brent Tate for speaking out about the controversial spear tackle he was subjected to in the series opener, while his comments after being suspended on a dangerous tackle charge after his side’s game three loss were equally antagonistic.

But Bird took interstate sniping to another level by challenging Mal Meninga to run at him, following claims by the Queensland coach that Bird took a dive when he was struck in the throat by Nate Myles’ forearm – which his Blues skipper Paul Gallen later confirmed.

Bird makes no bones about his hatred for Queensland – despite residing in the state in his club capacity with the Gold Coast Titans – and won’t be winning any popularity contests anytime soon after his crack at the revered Meninga.
