Benji wants out

Benji Marshall has blown NRL fans away by declaring he wants an immediate release from his Tigers contract so he can chase a contact in Japanese rugby.

Marshall is contracted to the West Tigers until the end of 2015, however Benji’s manager Martin Tauber is arguing that since the NRL has accepted bad boy Sonny Bill Williams back into the league, it has set a standard, saying every player should have the same right to explore overseas options.

Overseas player movement is becoming a large problem for Australian sports, especially the NRL. On top of the huge financial benefit that comes with playing overseas, most players are provided with other expenses such as accommodations, cars and airfares (normally business-class).

Every year the NRL has problems with players taking their talents off shore. The new NRL commission must put something in place to stop our homebred talent from being used in foreign sporting markets.
