Injured former Newcastle forward Alex McKinnon continues to inspire with his bravery in overcoming the on-field injury that left him wheelchair last April.
News of his mighty progress has regularly warmed the hearts of rugby league types and Australians in general, and the 22-year-old who played 49 games as a centre/backrower for St George Illawarra and Newcastle from 2011-14 achieved a major milestone recently.
Moving footage has emerged of the former Country Origin rep standing up for an extended period with the help of fiancé Teigan Power, although it later emerged the video had been leaked without McKinnon’s permission.
I’m very grateful for the support. Yet It is disappointing a personal video was leaked and aired without our permission

The circulation of the video is extremely disappointing given the arduous every personal nature of McKinnon’s rehabilitation, but the overwhelming support for reaching this recent goal has been unanimous.
McKinnon’s humility and courage throughout his difficult journey has been astounding. He reportedly remains cautious despite his remarkable progress, so as to not get ahead of himself and the uphill battle he still faces.
He declared his intention to walk Power down the aisle after proposing to her last year, and the young couple remain a constant source of inspiration.
