It’s front-row warfare at its finest – and the two combatants probably haven’t even had the need to shave yet.

The powerful tyros from the Ipswich Diggers and the Gold Coast, squaring off in an Under-14s carnival at Carina in Brisbane last weekend, went hammer in tongs in a series of explosive clashes.

It was reminiscent of the gladitorial Paul ‘Chief’ Harragon v Mark ‘Spud’ Carroll showdowns of the mid-1990s.

While two of the hits were ruled to be illegal shoulder-charges, there was nothing dirty about the youngsters’ battle – just good, hard footy, direct from the old school.

Well done, lads!
