Valeri volley adds to Wanderers misery

Melbourne Victory’s Carl Valeri offered no mercy to Western Sydney on Wednesday night, crashing home a thumping volley en route to a 2-1 win at Pirtek Stadium.

Wanderers have yet to win in the A-League this season and the last thing they needed was to concede rare beauties to usually goal-shy midfielders, but that’s precisely what happened from Gui Finkler’s corner.

The goal was Valeri’s first for Melbourne Victory since returning from a long career in Italy, coming just days after Marc Janko’s similarly spectacular strike was incorrectly ruled out.

Kevin Muscat’s side went on to seal all three points thanks to Finkler’s late winner.
