Top volley leads Asian Cup goal contenders

Is this the strike to beat for AFC Asian Cup goal of the tournament?

Iran fullback Ehsan Hajsafi registered an early contender in his side’s impressive 2-0 win over Bahrain on Sunday night, netting the match’s opening goal with an inch-perfect volley into the top corner.

Led by former Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz, Iran are expected to go deep into the tournament after a promising showing at last year’s FIFA World Cup.

Team Melli occupy an infamous position in Australia’s footballing history having dramatically denied the Socceroos a place at France ’98 with that World Cup qualification playoffs upset.

The two teams could potentially meet again in a Semi-Final in Sydney on Australia Day. Fingers crossed.
