Monday was an important day for the independent Match Review Panel (MRP) having to rule on two significant events from the weekend’s games.
Two red card incidents from the Sydney Derby were being ruled on. One involved Brett Emerton from Sydney FC and the other, Lacopo La Rocca from the Western Sydney Wonderers. Both received straight red cards for their conduct.
Brett Emerton was sent off in the 57th minute of the match for a dangerous tackle. The MRP ruled the mandatory one matched suspension would suffice.
La Rocca wasn’t so lucky, with his elbow to the face of Terry Antonis rightfully deemed malicious in the final minutes. The MRP have advised that the mandatory one match suspension, plus another three matches is deserved.
The player or their respective clubs may refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee for a hearing.
