Woakes channels 'Tubby' for amazing catch

We can’t decide if it’s incredible skill, dumb luck or equal helpings of both, but England’s Chris Woakes took one of the most remarkable catches you will ever see against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on Wednesday.

Juggling a regulation chance in the outfield, Woakes fell backwards as the ball bounced off his knee. The rising fast bowler then kicked the ball back into his right hand to complete the bizarre dismissal.

Woakes’ effort immediately brought back memories of Australian captain Mark Taylor’s spectacular slips catch to dismiss West Indies star Carl Hooper off Michael Bevan’s bowling at the SCG in 1996.

‘Tubby’s’ catch was remarkably similar, featuring a fumble, a fall and some soccer skills – although the big stage he performed it on has seen it go down in Australian Test cricket folklore.
