Maxwell out for up to 8 weeks

Collingwood have suffered a massive blow with their captain Nick Maxwell set to miss up to eight weeks with a fractured wrist.

Maxwell first started complaining of a sore wrist after their win over Carlton at the MCG in round 2.

The 29-year old has been plagued with injuries over the last two seasons. In 2012 Maxwell missed the start of the Toyota Premiership with an ankle injury and in 2011 fell victim to a fractured thumb late in the year.

Scans revealed a crack in Maxwell’s wrist which means he will go under the knife today or tomorrow.

Collingwood have a huge task this weekend as they take on Hawthorn at the MCG (Sunday 3:20pm AEST).
