The Brisbane Lions have won the 2013 NAB Cup with an impressive win over the Mick Malthouse coached Carlton Blues.
The Lions are hoping the win translates into early season form in the chase for a premiership. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Lions triple premiership, with current coach Michael Voss aware of what it takes to win the flag. Voss is challenging his squad by placing expectation on his young, and now battle fit midfield.
The NAB cup final win marks the Lions first success in the pre season tournament. However, It was not all smooth sailing for the northerners, trailing by 13 points at half time meant the young talent was required to stand up.
Led by the immense Jonathon Brown who kicked five goals, Brisbane’s youngsters in Dayne Zorko, Daniel Rich and Patrick Karnezis proved to be the difference. Josh Green proved he has matured supporting his captain with three goals.
A Lions lead of 27-points in the first quarter was cancelled out by Carton who booted five straight goals either side of the first quarter break. Brisbanes class proved too much for Carton down the stretch, winning the game by 41 points.
