Lake to front tribunal for choke

Hawthorn’s Brian Lake has been referred straight to the tribunal for his prolonged choke-hold on North Melbourne rival Drew Petrie during the Hawks’ upset loss on Friday night.

Lake’s actions in the ugly incident, which occurred during the third quarter of the close-fought contest, have attracted criticism from all and sundry in the AFL community – including from his own coach and teammates.

Lake is facing a fine – the Giants’ Jeremy Cameron and the Tigers’ Ty Vickery accepted $3,000 fines for headlock-type offences earlier in the season, although Lake’s is sure to be deemed worse – or a ban.
