Chalk it up to the strange: the Oakland Raiders have fired their offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave.

The stunning announcement comes after the Raiders season ended in the Wild Card round last weekend.

The Raiders ended 2016 with the NFL’s sixth-best scoring offense, while they finished seventh for total offense, rendering the choice to move on from Musgrave shocking for some.

Reports seeking to explain the matter are suggesting that QB coach Todd Downing will get the newly-vacant OC job.

Downing has been a hot commodity in the NFL coaching world, and it’s believed the Raiders moved quickly to keep Downing on the sidelines.

Still, it’s hard to justify moving on from a coach that performed to a high standard if the numbers are anything to go by.

But hey, it is the NFL.
