News from the Past Week

It might not be NFL season but there is always NFL news to pass along.

Here is what has happened over the past week:

  • Giants and Cruz are getting close, according to sources
  • Ravens LB Rolando McClain retires from NFL at age 23
  • Josh Cribbs signs with Oakland Raiders. This is a nice pick-up by the Raiders assuming Cribbs is at 100 percent
  • Titus Young pleads not guilty to 8 counts, remains in custody. Young was arrested three times in a matter of days. Wow is all you can say
  • Titus Young’s father: Son has brain disorder, needs help
  • Charles Woodson meets Broncos, but leaves Denver without NFL contract. He’ll end up somewhere because of his talent and you know what? He will be out to prove that he can still play at a high level this season
  • DeAngelo Williams restructures contract, Panthers now $8.4 million under cap
  • 49ers in talks with Eric Mangini about possible consultant job. I like Mangini on ESPN. I used to believe he didn’t have a great personality but now I think otherwise. He may be deserving of another job in the NFL
  • Chargers’ LB Melvin Ingram suffers torn ACL. What a terrible way to begin a NFL career. Ingram’s mental toughness will have to be strong after having this happen to him
  • Eagles’ LeSean McCoy being sued for assault
  • Alfred Morris says he left a lot of yards on the field last year. Morris was a beast last season. He ran hard on every play and for a rookie, that is impressive to see
  • TE Dennis Pitta signs restricted tender with Ravens
  • Bills GM Buddy Nix steps down
  • Patriots release DL Brandon Deaderick
  • Eagles sign Felix Jones, former Cowboys running back. This is a good signing for Chip Kelly and his offensive scheme. Jones can do multiple things out of the backfield
  • Wallace: Tannehill can rival Roethlisberger. Get real. There is only one Big Ben Roethlisberger and he’s a two-time Super Bowl champion. Just another silly statement from Wallace who has struggled to keep his mouth shut since joining the Dolphins

Injury news to note:

  • Jets’ quarterback David Garrard retires due to knee troubles. He had his best years in Jacksonville but never really lived up to the hype the way people expected
