Injuries, Schedule Changes, Vick Confident

Injuries are a big part of football. They happen often during the season but even in the offseason. Here’s a look at what we saw this past week in the NFL and a lot of the information relates to injury news.

News from this past week:

  • Report: NFL calls for immediate HGH testing
  • Chargers land former Steelers’ LT Max Starks. I love this move for San Diego, a team that is making deal after deal this offseason. Starks was one of the few reliable options on the Steelers’ offensive line
  • Former Jets’ QB Joe Namath says New York Jets wasted a draft pick on quarterback Geno Smith. Interesting but not surprising at all
  • San Francisco awarded Super Bowl L; Houston gets LI
  • Charles Woodson signs 1-year contract worth up to $4.3 million with Raiders. Woodson can still play in the NFL, he just needed a chance. His long wait will only fuel him to be prepared at his old NFL age
  • Geno Smith picks Jay-Z’s company to represent him
  • Brian Urlacher retires from the NFL. He played 13 seasons in the league, all in Chicago. He will go down as one of the best players in a Bears’ uniform and that’s saying something
  • NFL: Expanded playoffs, 18 games are still eyed. Why can’t we just leave it the way it is? Four preseason games is terrible but these guys already go through a lot
  • Arizona Cardinals sign Tyrann Mathieu to four-year contract
  • Michael Vick believes he’s the fastest running QB in the NFL despite the youthful talent in the league

Latest injury news to note:

  • Seahawks’ tight end Anthony McCoy has surgery on Achilles
  • RG III aims a return for Week 1 of the 2013 NFL season. Is that reasonable? I think it can and will be reasonable and we’ll begin to see that come to fruition around the preseason
  • Steelers’ Heath Miller has no answer for when he will play. Aside from Ben Roethlisberger, Miller has been the heart of the Steelers’ passing game. Him going down late in the season may push his start time in 2013 much later than hoped
  • Bucs’ Darrelle Revis cleared to resume cutting on new ACL
  • 49ers’ Michael Crabtree has a torn Achilles. The team believes he can return in 2013
  • Ravens rookie linebacker Arthur Brown sidelined after sports hernia surgery
  • Eagles tight end James Casey to undergo knee surgery
  • Browns’ RB Trent Richardson may miss minicamp with lower leg injury
  • Redskins’ WR Pierre Garcon had labrum surgery
