Free agency got a shocking piece of interrupting news this morning with DeMarcus Ware’s sudden announcement of retirement from the league.

The linebacker played the bulk of his career in Dallas, with the Cowboys immediately offering Ware a one-day contract to retire with the franchise.

Ware was a nine-time Pro Bowler, four time All-Pro, and won the Super Bowl with the Broncos in 2015.

One of the NFL’s all-time great sack artists, Ware finished his career 8th in NFL history in sacks.

The linebacker was expected by many to return for another season, with two left on his contract. But the Broncos front office was more than cordial to Ware in his announcement.
