Clay Matthews signs extension

The Green Bay Packers and linebacker Clay Matthews have agreed on an extension.

Sources say the new deal is for five years and is worth around $65 million in new money, with $31 million guaranteed.

26-year old Matthews would have been a free agent after the end of the 2013-2014 season having only one year left on his $3.7 million rookie contract.

Clay finished last year with 13 sacks in the regular season, and 3 throughout the postseason.

Green Bay general manager, Ted Thompson stated, “Clay has been a productive member of our team and we are pleased to be able to come to an agreement that will extend his Packers career”.

Thompson and the Packers are now in extension talks with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
