During a midweek interview, Paul Pierce suggested Toronto does not have “it”, stating that the Wizards enter the series with confidence, even though they lost the season series 3-0. Booed for the entire game, Pierce silenced the crowd and let Washington to victory (93-86), scoring 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting (3-of-4 from downtown).
The Wizards took a commanding lead in the third quarter but the Raptors clawed back in the game. With 25 seconds left, Vasquez (TOR) tied the game with a three, sending the game into overtime, with all the momentum for the home team after a huge comeback. Pierce, however, was not finished yet, and knocked down a huge three at the start of overtime. The Wizards would outscore Toronto 11-4 in OT, and steal game one on the road.
