Lakers sign D'Antoni

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed former Phoenix and Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni. It’s believed Mike has signed a three-year deal worth $12 million, with the option for the fourth year.

After much speculation about Phil Jackson returning, many NBA fans are some what surprised by the hiring of Mile D’Antoni. Jackson was told the job was his to turn down, even though no official offer had been made.

The last time we saw Mike in the NBA, was when he retired last March from the head coaching position at the New York Knicks. Having a highly talented roster, D’Antoni couldn’t seem to gel the team, and stood down after being unsuccessful at implementing his fast pace offense.

One player that will be happy about the Mike D’Antoni hiring is Steve Nash. Nash and Mike were together for five seasons in Phoenix. During their time together Nash won the leagues MVP award twice (2004-2005 and 2005-2006).

Reports are saying that Phil had requested to miss a few road games due to health reasons.
