The NBA’s next family dynasty appears set to take shape if Gary Payton II’s monster one-handed jam for Oregon State Beavers is any gauge.
The 23-year-old annihilated an Oregon defender with this stunning dunk in transition.
Payton, the son of Hall-of-Famer Gary Payton, is in his second season with his father’s alma mater after two seasons with Salt Lake Community College.
The eye-catching play certainly wasn’t a one-off either – this equally bombastic one-hander against Kansas City only a few weeks early was virtually identical in style and impact.
Payton senior was a nine-time NBA All-Star best remembered as the gun point guard for Seattle Supersonics from 1991-2002, while he enjoyed elusive Championship success with the 2006 Miami Heat in the penultimate season of his career after stints with the Bucks, Lakers and Celtics.
He led the league in steals in 1995-96 and assists in 1999-2000, and was named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1996 – the only time a point guard has received the gong.
