Battle Of NYC Begins; Odom To Rehab; + More

J.R. Smith can’t stop talking, a young star believes he can be the best shooting guard in the league, and Lamar Odom’s career takes a turn for the worst in this week’s NBA recap.

News From The Past Week:

  • Lamar Odom was busted for DUI. Odom checked into a rehab center and quickly checked out one day later. His career is free falling out of control
  • 76ers’ Jason Richardson could miss entire 2013-14 season with injury
  • Celtics head coach Brad Stevens: Rondo ‘progressing really well’ but he’s unsure when he’ll return.
  • J.R. Smith: Pierce will ‘pay’ for comments about Nets taking over New York. J.R. Smith also said that New York will win the NBA title this year. Big words coming from a guy who is suspended five games for violating the substance abuse policy. Smith also doesn’t have a timetable to return from injury. He has done a lot of talking for not even being ready for the season
  • Kris Humphries: ‘There should be a support group for husbands of the Kardashians’. He, of course, is talking about fellow NBA player Lamar Odom
  • Lakers’ Mike D’Antoni had ‘breakdown in communication’ with players last year
  • Thunder guard DeAndre Liggins arrested on domestic abuse charge
  • Joel Anthony wants to retire in a Heat uniform, not upset by limited minutes. He’s winning NBA titles while playing in a role he’s comfortable with – I would want to retire in Miami, too
  • Clippers’ Antawn Jamison: Don’t write off Kobe just yet
  • Dion Waiters thinks he can be best shooting guard in NBA. You have to love the former Syracuse Orange’s attitude. Waiters averaged 14.7 points per game in his rookie season at the ripe age of 21. He’s well on his way
  • Magic working on Hedo Turkoglu buyout, according to the Orlando Sentinel
  • J.J. Barea ‘very good with’ return to Mavericks. Barea averaged 11.3 points per game in each of his two seasons in Minnesota while averaging more minutes than any time in his career. He can still be a productive player for Dallas
  • LeBron James given a locker at Ohio State’s new basketball facility. He’s also working on a sitcom. James is getting involved in more off-the-court random things, but his two NBA Finals MVP’s and two NBA rings allow him to do stuff like this more often. If you win when it matters, there is no reason why you can’t enjoy yourself in the offseason
  • Source: Bulls promote Adrian Griffin to lead assistant
  • Raptors waive Quentin Richardson
  • Rasual Butler to sign with Pacers
  • Lakers sign free agent Shawne Williams
  • Louis Amundson’s agent says client still has interest from Lakers, Clippers
  • Celtics’ Jared Sullinger arrested for domestic situation
  • Pistons’ Maurice Cheeks cleared after police investigate dispute
  • Phoenix Suns Waive Troubled Michael Beasley
  • Hall of Famer Chris Mullin to join Kings’ front office
  • Sources: Lakers doubt Ryan Kelly will be ready for season
  • Jay Z sells Nets stake to Jason Kidd
  • Report: Royce White is under investigation for domestic violence. When Royce White came out of Iowa State his potential of being a superstar was evident. He could do everything on the offensive side of the floor – score, shoot from range, facilitate, run the floor, but he hasn’t even played a game in the NBA yet. Talk about talent being wasted
  • Lance Stephenson: Pacers can be best in East
  • New point guard Beno Udrih says Knicks can make NBA Finals. What’s up with these Knicks players saying ridiculous things that put targets on their backs? Just be quiet and play the game
  • Bobcats sign free agent forward James Southerland. The former Syracuse Orange could be beneficial to the Bobcats if he can continue to knock down the outside shot which is his specialty
  • Andrew Bynum says his rehabilitation is on schedule for his return

Biggest Takeaways From The Week:

  • Lamar Odom having his share of issues. Odom hasn’t been the same since he left Los Angeles in 2011. For whatever reason, mostly his relationship with Khloé Kardashian, Odom has been on a downhill slide. You just hope he can somehow find a way to get out it because he’s missing the latter part of his career because of off-the-court issues
  • Dion Waiters thinks he can be the best shooting guard in the NBA. Waiters plays with a no-fear attitude. He isn’t afraid of taking the big three pointer. He isn’t afraid of driving the hole. If his rookie season is indicative of his career, he does have a chance to be the best shooting guard in the league. His drive is that strong
  • J.R. Smith does a lot of talking for someone who hasn’t accomplished much in the postseason. It’s one thing to say that your team has a chance to win the title because he believes in his teammates. It’s another thing to say that his team WILL win the NBA title. Win something first THEN talk
