#24 Ahead of Schedule; J.R Injury & More

Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James to the Lakers? That was one of the story lines from this past week. Let’s touch on that topic and much more.

News From This Past Week:

  • Mavs’ pick Shane Larkin expected to miss three months after ankle surgery. Larkin has a wonderful future ahead of him, but this obviously isn’t the best start
  • J.R. Smith’s knee surgery does not surprise the Knicks, according to sources. It shouldn’t, but giving somebody money who is currently injured has to cause some concern
  • Joe Dumars: Trade door is open for Pistons
  • Lakers ‘close’ to hiring Kurt Rambis
  • Bobby Brown works out for Knicks
  • 76ers get OK to interview Heat assistant coach David Fizdale
  • Paul George is happy in Indiana, but seems interested in a Lakers future. George is a star in the NBA. I expect Indiana to make a real push this upcoming season, one that actually defeats the Heat in the playoffs if they can get and stay healthy. He should stay focused on that
  • Andrew Wiggins named Gatorade male high school athlete of the year; the future star actually wants to play in Toronto
  • Raptors buy out Marcus Camby
  • Dumars adamantly denies Brandon Jennings, Knight-for-Rondo rumors
  • Sources: Lakers eye Carmelo & LeBron for 2014. This is the only way Carmelo would win an NBA title, but I don’t see the two going to Los Angeles. I see James staying with Miami for a few more years while Dwyane Wade still has life in the league. Then, believe it or not, I could see a situation where LeBron goes home to finish out his career, if accepted
  • Bucks sign free agent guard-forward Carlos Delfino
  • Jordan Farmar signs 1-year deal to return to Los Angeles
  • King of ESPYS: LeBron voted Best Male Athlete; Heat were named Best Team
  • Free-agent forward Jason Maxiell agrees to join Orlando Magic
  • Mark Cuban: Mavs better off without Howard
  • Source: Aldridge’s rep meets with Olshey to talk trade scenarios. Portland is a team on the rise, but Aldridge is a huge piece to the puzzle
  • Kobe Bryant ahead of schedule, according to sources. He’ll be back and extremely motivated when he returns to the court this season

Biggest Takeaways From The Week:

  • Lakers possibly targeting Carmelo and James. I just don’t see it happening. James will stay in Miami to continue to create his legacy, and I could see a situation where he returns to Cleveland a couple years down the line. We won’t see the two together in Los Angeles
  • Mark Cuban saying he believes Dallas is a better team without Howard. Of course you are. Howard is a good player in the league, but extremely limited. He went to Houston and that was the correct move with James Harden by his side. He needs that fellow youthful star by his side
